That’s it, we are in 2015! As every year in Taiwan, the Taipei 101 fireworks were everywhere on TV. Many media around the world compared the different fireworks and classify them. Taipei 101 fireworks internationally recognised is not a rumour anymore. We can tell you that Taipei 101 fireworks are internationally recognised as one of the shortest, stingiest and cheapest in the world. To explain this to you, we are going to compare different fireworks around the world.
This year, the main fireworks in New York City lasted around 15 minutes, the one in Sydney lasted twice 10 minutes (1 at 9pm and 1 at midnight), 12 minutes in London, 10 minutes in Dubai, 10 minutes in Singapore, 10 minutes in Hong Kong and so on. At the same time, the one in Taipei lasted… wait for it… an incredible amount of time that you won’t even believe it… 3 minutes! Yes, that’s true! But at least this is better than 10 years ago. Indeed, in 2005 Taipei 101 fireworks lasted 30 seconds.
Peanuts Daily interviewed one of the members of Groupe F, French organizers of the Taipei fireworks display:
We created the opening of the Athens 2004 Olympic games, also the birthday of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. At those events, we were told to prepare amazing fireworks and we did. When Taipei 101 staff approached us, we were told the opposite: to not make amazing fireworks. Indeed, the promoters told us there are a large amount of fireworks in Taiwan all around the year (Chinese New Year, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat, Taiwan National Day, New Year, every Saturday and Sunday for religion matters…). They explained us the quality of fireworks is not important but the quantity is. They did not want a great one at Taipei 101 because Taiwanese would not understand why all the other ones are bad.
We also met Terry Lu, a Taiwanese who went around the crowded streets of Taipei 101 during the countdown:
I waited for 7 hours to watch a 3-minute fireworks and now it’s going to take me a few more hours to go back home with all these people gathered here: I am so happy about it, this is amazing! Definitely, one of the best experiences of my life!
