With the increase of smartphone users all around the world the past few years, a new disease appeared. It is called smartphone addiction. This is a very serious issue in many countries and the Taiwanese government takes it seriously. It is well known that Taiwan hospitals and the health care systems are advanced. The government wanted to go even further by opening the 1st psychiatric smartphone addiction hospital in Asia. It will open its doors by the end of the summer (just before the launch of the next Iphone) in Kaohsiung, in the south of Taiwan. Thanks to the local healthcare, patients will pay very low fees. Peanuts Daily investigated for you and here is what we found out about this hospital.
The smartphone addiction hospital is currently recruiting personnel. The Human Resource Department of the hospital takes a different approach than the H&M Gay controversial recruiting policy. We met Ms. Linda Kuo, Human Resource Manager at the hospital:
We are looking for experienced staff who have already dealt with such diseases: either people who were able to fight and win against that terrible illness or people who helped others around them to stop using smartphones.
We asked the director of the establishment what were the symptoms of such addiction and how can we detect it. He told us that if you check your Facebook account more than twice a day, this is already a bad sign. If you check your phone more than twice an hour just to look if someone sent you a Line or Whatsapp message, this is also bad. If you keep loud smartphone ringtones in public to attract attention, there is a place for you at the hospital. If you have a drink with your friends or family but everybody is watching their phones instead, you are definitely entitled to follow a 9 to 12 months treatment at the institution. If it is not treated in early stage, it could have long-term brain damages.
If you suspect one of your friends or relatives to be infected, you should make some tests such as hide their smartphone or just break it. If they get mad, they are definitely sick and you should send them to the Kaohsiung smartphone addiction hospital. But be careful, this disease is very contagious. Don’t check Facebook more than once a day, don’t share photos of your meals or ‘philosophic-style’ status. If you start it will be very hard to stop. According to recent studies, smartphone addiction is 3 times more addictive than heroine.
