On Sunday 8th and Monday 9th of February 2015, the branch of the bank HSBC in Switzerland was victim (By the French investigative newspaper Le Monde) of a massive leak of thousands of secret documents proving the large international fiscal fraud the company was doing. These documents prove the bank was doing business with arm dealers, diamond dealers, human trafficking organizations, terrorist organizations but also celebrities or businessmen around the world. The documents are only for the period 2006-2007. HSBC salesmen were prospecting and made complicated mechanisms to help people to fraud. You can see with the attached document below that Asia is largely concerned by this the HSBC Swiss Leaks. By following this link you can see the full list of the countries concerned: http://indianexpress.com/article/world/world-others/hsbc-sheltered-murky-cash-linked-to-dictators-arms-dealers
You will discover that more than 88 millions US$ (2.5 Billions NT$) were transferred from Taiwan during that period, more than 500 Millions US$ from China, more than 1.7 Billion US$ from Hong Kong, more than 400 Millions US$ from Japan, more than 4 Billions US$ from India… These numbers only include HSBC. For example, the 88 millions from Taiwan are divided into 73 accounts. Last year, another leak said that Taiwanese owns at least 16,000 bank accounts in Switzerland.
Peanuts Daily was surprised to see that many media (From China, Japan, Taiwan…) hide the HSBC Swiss Leaks in Asia by not even reporting the news. We wondered why Asian media don’t talk much or not at all about this scandal. We met a responsible at China News Agency (We cannot divulge her name for obvious reasons):
The rumors in CNA say that our president is directly implicated. He apparently has a few accounts in Switzerland and some fake companies from Panama. We received the order to not release anything in our newspapers before it is confirmed.
Focus Taiwan being owned by CNA, this is not a surprise there is no article yet about it.
Our services could not contact Xinhua Net (The main media of mainland China). This is not hard to deduct that many of their acquaintances have bank accounts in Switzerland.
We were able to contact Taipei Times and this is what they answered us:
Thanks for letting us know the information, we will talk about it soon. As you know, at Taipei Times and Liberty Times Group, we don’t have any journalist or investigator for almost 10 years now.
The contacts with other Taiwanese media reminded us previous articles they posted about us: Taiwanese Media.
We investigated more and had the chance to meet one of the Taiwanese having offshore accounts:
HSBC Switzerland is great. They do everything for you. The minimal amount of money you need to have is only 30 Millions NT$: that’s nothing. They have a great customer service. They opened for me a fake company is Panama and that way I am totally hidden from authorities. I saved so much money thanks to them.
He is definitely not scared to be caught. If you also want to meet him, he is usually on Friday and Saturday night driving a Lamborghini or an Aston Martin near Taipei 101.
Former Taiwan president Chen Shui-bian (阿扁仔) declared:
I am very surprised my name is not on the list. I am kind of disappointed. I have a reputation of con to preserve. I hope the mistake will be corrected quickly. What will people think about me if they believe I don’t have a HSBC account in Switzerland.
