As you probably noticed if you live in Taipei, many art projects are happening. For instance, last month there was Art Taipei 2014 (Galleries of designers, fine artists…) at the World Trade Center, BBoyCity (A dance competition) at New Taipei City, Taiwan Photo 2014, From Now On, An Uncanny Tomorrow… These are just examples but there were many more.
Mr. Hau Lung-pin, mayor of Taipei, declared to Peanuts Daily:
Elections just ended and I had very little chance to be re-elected. I needed to find new voters. I organised events to push young people to vote for KMT (Kuomintang). This was my Christmas gift to them.
Mr. Eric Chu, mayor of New Taipei City had a different view:
Voters are like mice, you give them a bit of cheese and they come to you. A voter being a mouse and the cheese representing an activityTold Mr. Eric Chu to Peanuts Daily with a proud face and an air amused by his own metaphor.
We went to BBoyCity and asked Ms. Grace Tung, a 21-year old visitor at the show, her thoughts about the future Mayor election:
I had no idea there was an election coming. I am so busy going to all these activities that I forgot about it. I went at as many events as possible the last few weeks because they won’t have anymore after the election. To keep up and be able to attend After-Artworks, I always keep special vitamins with me. If I run out, there is always someone nice to give me a pill. I didn’t have time to go to vote.
Mr. Takahiro Kondo, a Japanese artist from Art Taipei 2014 said:
Now is the good time to come to Taiwan with the elections. The government pays it all… really all. We are used to present our work around the world and we only travel depending on local elections. This is the only time of the year that institutions are pleased to welcome artists and this is when visitors open their minds to higher things.
We believe KMT’s propaganda made the voters too busy to get interested by the election. KMT has not been really wished this year and we are not sure Santa Claus will visit them.
Our team advises you to do as Grace and use the benefits of all these Taipei art shows because there won’t be as many next year. Take your vitamins!
