Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) is Taiwan’s president for 7 years now. Since his first election in 2008, he has been able to rack up failure after failure (Lack of leadership, his close contacts with China, the ice bucket challenge, Christmas…).[See 3 examples of Ma Ying-jeou’s failures here: Taiwan ice bucket challenge – Ma Ying-jeou Christmas – Ma Ying-jeou is happy]
Ma Ying-jeou reached an impressive popularity of 6%. He was in competition as the least popular president in the world with the French president Francois Hollande who reached 13%. But, the French president went back up around 30% with the ‘Charlie Hebdo’ crisis he managed. Our dear Taiwanese president had to do something about it and tried to be successful at something. This is it! He finally succeeded. This morning, an official presidential allocution was on TV where it was presented the first Ma Ying-jeou success in 7 years:
As your leader, I am very proud to inform you about an important news. Many people said I am a lame duck. I can tell you today I might be a duck but not a lame one. It has been 2 years I have been working on it and I succeeded about 1 hour ago. I finally passed the level 17 of Candy Crush. This is not the work of 1 individual but the work of a nation. This success would not have been possible without your support. I have 15 months left at Taiwan’s presidency and I hope to realize my 2nd success by then.
Will this news make Ma Ying-jeou’s popularity rebound? Our guess is yes because Taiwanese will feel their president is close to them.
